Evidence-Based Decision Making

Evidence-Based Decision Making

CEBMa’s e-textbook Evidence-Based Decision Making – for Organizations, Public Policy and Practice is the standard textbook on this topic and is currently used by more than 100 universities worldwide.

The basic idea of evidence-based decision making is that good-quality decisions depend on the systematic use of the best available evidence. Although all decision makers use some form of evidence, many pay little attention to its trustworthiness and rely on too few sources. As a result, decisions in organizations, public policy, and practice are often based on fads, ‘cutting-edge’ solutions, and popular ideas promoted by consulting firms and management gurus. The result is poor decisions, poor outcomes, and limited understanding of what actually works. To address this, evidence-based decision making improves decision quality by using critically evaluated evidence from multiple sources: organizational data, professional expertise, stakeholder values, and scientific research. Although this approach sounds straightforward, gathering, understanding, and applying evidence is challenging and requires specific skills. This book helps students develop these skills and shows how evidence-based decision making can improve decisions in organizations, public policy, and practice.

This interactive e-Textbook is a fully updated and expanded version of the best-selling (paper) textbook 'Evidence-Based Management - How to Use Evidence to Make Better Organizational Decisions'
